We visited the brand new roleplay cafe based in Chipping Sodbury: My Little Town!

The play cafe is all about roleplay and it is designed for ages 1 – 8. Children can act out a variety of roles in the many play spaces: Vets, Cafe, Shop, Construction Site, Hairdressers, Theatre, Gym, Library, Car Track, Fire Station with Fire Engine (which beeps and lights flash), Art Studio, Camping Ground and Red Double Decker Bus (which also beeps)! There are two more play spaces coming soon and an outdoor area will likely be added later this year so watch this space!

Whilst the majority of the play cafe is aimed at ages 1-8 years, there is an enclosed baby section in the middle of the room. If you have a baby and an older sibling it would be a nice easy outing with them. You need to be able to supervise your children there, but it is a nice size that they cannot get lost – although you might have to poke your head into a few play units before you find them!

My two both loved running around dressing up and getting into everything. We had such a nice time and I think this would be an amazing place for a birthday party.

Benefits of Roleplay

We love roleplay as research shows that pretend play forms an essential part of a child’s development. Children learn by observing, imagining and doing. It builds confidence, develops communication and language social skills, problem solving, helps children to empathise with others, encourages friendships, develops leadership skills and sparks creativity and imagination. Imaginary play is supported within the Early Years Curriculum.
