dog friendly bristol

We love it when we can take Winston out with us on a family day out. Here are some ideas of the best places we have spotted so far! Is there anywhere else that you would add to this list? We also really like the Bristol Barkers website for ideas for dog friendly walks and pubs!

Dog Friendly (Bristol) Family Outings:

  • Old Down Country Park – On leads. Farm animals, adventure playgrounds, cafe – great whole day out! Reopening 10 Feb.
  • Perrygrove Railway – On leads. Miniature railway, play areas, cafe. £1 entry per dog. Approx 40 mins from Bristol.
  • Ashton Court – Perfect Bristol walk, great cafe & huge grounds good for scooting/bikes.
  • Blaise Castle Estate – Another popular spot with families! Lovely walk by the river, big play area & cafe.
  • Cotswold Wildlife Park – On leads, some areas restricted. This is a zoo approx 1 hr 10 from Bristol. (Yet to visit but heard good things!)
  • Westonbirt – Dogs allowed in 2/3 of the arboretum  but 1/3 is dog free (the old arboretum). Some areas off lead, some on lead. Unfortunately the gruffalo trail is in the dog free area, however the gruffalo’s child sculpture is in a dog friendly area.
  • Willsbridge Mill – Lovely short river walk, wildlife garden & cafe. Beautiful mill building.
  • Weston or Brean beach – Both beaches are close to Bristol and have family friendly facilities. Check seasonal restrictions for Weston. Brean is dog friendly all year round. There is a NT cafe & toilets.
  • Chew Moos Ice Cream Parlour – There’s an outside space with picnic benches, a play area, and goats. Re-opening March.
  • Avon Valley Railway – Dogs are welcome on non-event days (when it’s quieter). Train rides and cafe at site.
  • Tyntesfield National Trust – Dogs on leads. A few areas dog free shown on maps. Beautiful house, play areas & cafe.
  • Chew Valley Lake – Dogs on leads. Lake walk with new path good for scooting/bikes, play area and Salt & Matt fish and chips are here.
  • American Museum & Gardens – Dogs on leads in the gardens. Beautiful grounds and museum. Reopening 11 March.
  • Cheddar Gorge & Caves – Dogs on leads. Lots of walks, and you can actually take dogs inside the caves! Lots of pubs/cafes around that are dog friendly.
  • Mountain View Ranch – Dogs on leads. Gruffalo trail, play areas, animals. Approx 1 hr from Bristol.
