Garden Party
If you have a garden and a birthday in the warmer months, a garden party can be special, intimate and inexpensive. Simple ideas to make it feel special:
1. Food – Make or buy a cake, and serve favourite foods. Go for classic party food, afternoon tea, a picnic or a BBQ.
2. Bouncy castle – Hire one, or a money saving hack for those with young children: buy a toddler bouncy castle on Facebook marketplace, use it for the weekend, then resell it.
3. Party games – Traditional party games are always a hit: pass the parcel, musical chairs/bumps, Simon says. You could also make an obstacle course or run a scavenger hunt.
4. Decorate – Balloon arches are easier than they look and there are affordable kits online. A quick YouTube tutorial is all you need – if I can do it so can you!
5. Outdoor cinema – Garden cinema set ups look like a lot of fun for summer birthdays. Companies like Sunset Cinema offer packages for this, or you could invest in a projector.
6. Sleepover tipi hire – A special sleepover set-up.
7. Hot tub hire – A fun option for older kids and teens.
Park Party
If the weather is on your side a party in a park is a great budget friendly option. We have been to one at Victoria Park and have spotted them at Ashton Court. The one we attended had party food, a bubble wand, garden games (a stomp rocket is always a hit) and a water table. It was a 3rd birthday and the kids were very entertained!
You can easily host party games with lots of space. Some entertainers will even host a party in a park (e.g. Adventure Team!). You could have a teddy bears picnic party, or set up a scavenger hunt. Other parks with a nice setting and toilets include Page Park, St George Park, Blaise Castle, and Oldbury Court Estate.
