The Show
We adored seeing Disney on Ice in Cardiff. Discover the Magic was a very impressive show with brilliant figure skaters dressed as Disney characters, performing to the Disney songs we know and love on ice! There were songs from a great variety of Disney films e.g. Frozen, Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Moana, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Coco! Other characters like Mickey, Minnie & friends were there too.
There were huge skeletons brought out during Coco, amazing acrobatics, dancing, colourful costumes, and skating up and down ramps – so much going on it was all planned to a tee. Seeing SO many characters come out for the finale including extra characters was one of the highlights! There is a video on our Instagram post linked below.
The duration was approx 2 hrs with an interval. This was my 3 year old’s first big show and first Disney related experience. She absolutely loved the whole thing and we will be on the look out for the next time it is on near us. I noticed there are a number of different Disney on Ice shows so we are hoping for one with Encanto songs next time!
Where to sit?
Please note different venues may vary, but we saw Disney on Ice at the Cardiff International Arena (CIA) and sat at the short end of the ice rink on Row G. It was a great view as a lot of the performances are choreographed to finish facing you and you can see the backdrop well. We were really happy with our seats, however the performers move all around the ice rink so I am sure it is a great view from wherever you are, and you might have a wider view if you sat in the middle on the longer sides. There were a handful of children that got picked to go up on the stage corners, so if you want a chance of that, best to buy front row probably near the front corners, but chances of that happening are slim as it was only 5 children!
Visiting the Cardiff International Arena (CIA) for Disney on Ice
We travelled to Cardiff from Bristol and it took us less than an hour’s drive so it felt fine as a day trip. Parking was easy at John Lewis and it was a short walk to the CIA. We went on the Sunday and it was too early for the first train, but next time I would try to do that!
Tips Before Going
There are lots of light up wands/hand helds for sale which are fun in the dark. Save money buying (or borrowing) one in advance.
Lots of children dress up. We borrowed Minnie ears to wear which added to the fun! (We’ve not got our own as not been to Disney YET!)
We did buy Disney snacks there e.g. Mickey Mouse popcorn bucket (£15) and a Frozen flavoured ice slushie (£13?). We got to keep the bucket and Frozen cup but it was spenny. I felt it was a special one off day out and I wanted to treat Ada, but I did feel guilty about my spending after! Location dependent you may be able to take your own snacks?!

It will feature legendary film scenes on a giant screen with a live orchestra. The show will feature songs from films such as Beauty and the Beast, Encanto, Mary Poppins, as well as some Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel.
Sounds great and is on across the UK May/June 2023. Cardiff is 7 June. Tickets are available here!
